How to pack?

Keep it small

It doesn't matter the size of your bag, the most important is to maximize the space. That means that it isn't necessary a big bag to travel for a long period of time.

So opt for a bag with a capacity of 40-50 liters. That way you are restricted on how much stuff you can pack.

And the most important, you have to take the bag to the back, so don't pack too heavy.

Furthermore, the small size of hygiene products and samples are the best option to travel with, because you have all you need without spending a lot of money and without packing too much.

Take multi-purpose items

Be creative and pack with you items that have more than one usage. For example, use shampoo as gel and as washing detergen. the items you take with you can have more than one usage.

Moreover, you can pack solid shampoo and gel, so it won't be any problem with liquids at the airport, if you have to take a flight.

Share your stuff

If you are travelling with friends, family or with your partner; why not share your things. Exchange books, clothes and hairbrush, for example.

And, if you want to carry big bottles of hygiene products you can share them too! Doing this you'll carry half of the things you would carry if you didn't do this.

Go digital

An e-book is much lighter and slimmer than a real book, so you'll no longer have to break your back carting heavy books around!

If the last post wasn't enought for you, I have more essentials to pack for a long journey. Take a look to the list:

• Small speakers if you travel with a big group of friends

• Playing cards to enjoy the time on the train

• A bottle you can use across all the journey

• Raincoat, although if you think that it won't rain

• Swimsuit, because there will always be a river or a beach where you can swim

• Flip flops, basics in beaches, river and public bathrooms

• Pen to write on your Interrail Pass

• Headphones and phone charger, they are essential and very easy to forget

• Toothbrush and toothpaste, absolutely necessary

• Laundry bag, although I recommend you to wash your clothes each day to have always clean clothes and not to accumulate the work

• Microfiber towel, light and dries off queekly

Packing light makes it easier to move around Europe, moreover, you will have less to worry about.

The most important thing to do before packing is check the weather of all the countries you are visiting and make a packing list. Then, at the time you are packing, you will not miss anything, and not only before the trip, also when you change country.

But if this is your first time backpacking, this won't be enough for you. So here you have some things to pack:

First aid kit with basics: eye drops, lergyc pills, plasters, athsma inhaler, paracetamol...

Deodorant and sunscreen because you'll be walking for hours under the sun each day

• Photocopies of all your documents: european health card, passport, ID, travel insurance, boarding passes, Interrail pass and map...

• Credit card because it is safer and takes up less space in your bag

• Money: not all european countries use euro, so it may change in each country

• Padlock: a basic if you'rev going to sleep in hostels

• Driving licence: that is valid in all European Union, which is not the same that in all Europe

• Adapter: countries like Denmark, Switzerland ot England use different plugs, voltages... that the frest of countries

• Multiswitch plug because hostals, hotels or flats can have one or two outles in each room, and with this you can buy only one adapter for three or four chargers

• A small alarm clock because the mobile phone can fail

• Double-check your trains and stations. Be prepared for each stage of your train journey, from the moment you enter the station, to your time on the train and when to get off.

                              

Many larger cities have multiple train stations, and trains to and from the city do not always stop at all of them. Double check exactly which station you need to depart from, so you don’t miss your train. 

If there is a specific station in a city you want to arrive at, also check that the train you’re taking stop there.
